This is a monthly market with lekker eten (delicious food) mostly organic, as well as other local, sustainable goods, and live music. Happenings in Amsterdam the long weekend of September 24 - 27

This week's agenda surprised me, there is so much to do. A friend asked me this morning, after I made a few suggestions for his weekend, "so then, what are you planning on doing?"; I couldn't reply! It seems I need/want to be in multiple places at the same time, and although that is annoying it was also quite great to think that Amsterdam has so much to offer.

This week I had a request to specifically list theater shows that are in English, or where language is no problem, which I will work to continue to do. That being said I want to emphasize that this agenda is hand-picked and does not aim to post every event into English, rather I post a handful of happenings. Furthermore this agenda is not only for the non-Dutch speakers, so some events might be in Dutch (which I will note in the listing).

In celebration of the World Day of Peace Earth Dance was organized as an international dance event with over three hundred thousand people dancing simultaneously across the globe. Considered a musical adventure with 50% of profits going to the Tibet Support Group. This event has six podiums with various acts including drum & bass, reggae, indie dance, electro punk, roots, progressive trance, chill out, techno, acid, etc… There is also an all night open-air chill out market with food, drinks and market stalls.

Week three of this project is well on its way, it is amazing how time just flies by -I have already been at this for three weeks!? I can officially now be found at http://www.busyinamsterdam.nl/. I appreciate your comments and interest in the agenda. I want to emphasize that the aim of this agenda is ultimately to post the not-so-mainstream events, the things you can't find in Dutch agendas, and or that you need to do some real searching (which I do for you). Although I realize for many of you that you might actually depend on an agenda like this because you don't understand Dutch, therefore I realized I have to work on that balance when I make my choices for happenings. Two people have requested that I list more music on this agenda and I have done that this week; but what else do you want to see? Please tell me and I will work to find it for you!:)

There is plenty to do this weekend: lots to do in the sun, lots of films and fun stuff to do with the kids (I created a separate section for kids stuff this week, but some events are also embedded in the general agenda). The artists have created works for and from their envisioned future contexts, while the speakers will foretell their imagined futures of Amsterdam Noord, from the perspectives of their expertise...Amsterdam Noord is currently faced with a bevy of visions of its imminent regeneration. The predictions being made revolve dizzyingly around of the ‘Creative City’, which implicates not only artists but an expanded creative subjectivity in its conception of a society made up of self-reliant, resourceful individuals on a constant quest for self-improvement. Given by ARCAM, and the Association of Dutch Architects:Kring Amsterdam-Kennemerland an exhibition of BMXers and other 'wheel artists' give demonstrations, other presentations by public space experts, and a bike tour at the Oosterdoks. The route map ‘City on Wheels’, which accompanies the guided tours in Dutch, contains information about the architecture and the paving on the route. The cost of the guided tours is 5 euros (including transport and publication).
